Sysadmin’s update: We’re back, sort of… Also Xonotic

by Linus Heckemann

tl;dr systems improving gradually. Xonotic on, download here.

Hi everyone! We’ve had radio silence here for quite a while, largely because I have no idea what I’m doing with all these boxes and all the services they’re running. I barely managed to get the sites back up in early September after an all-summer outage…

But we’re back, I’ve managed to wrangle the systems to give me admin privileges on most of the services I know we’re running (pretty useful for being able to run them) and have even somehow managed to update wordpress.

Anyway, you may be here because of tonight’s gaming night meetup, in which case you can grab Xonotic from here — it’ll be a bit faster since you can download it via the LAN if you’re there. If you’re anywhere else just get it from its official website. Once you’ve got it running (just unpack the zip file and you should be good to go), connect to!

See you!

President’s Update 02/03/16

Hey All,

It’s about time we had another update,┬áHope you’re all doing well!

Thanks to everyone who managed to come along. We had a great time running the event and hope you all had fun being there. We’ve put the photos up on our website now and you can have a look at them all here.

Weekly Meetings

With the deadlines for fourth year dissertations approaching, most of the people (myself included) running the society will be unavailable for the majority of the time. I’m fretting slightly just writing this post! Therefore we need you guys to suggest topics and plans for the next few weeks. We’ll ask at the end of each meeting what you want to cover the following, and try our best to cover it. čÖé

Thursday 3rd March (Tomorrow)

We’re going to be running an intro to web design. This will run at a relaxed pace to introduce the concepts of HTML and CSS and we’ll work towards building up some nice static pages, then take it from there depending on how well we get on. ^_^

We’ll meet in Level 14 of Livingstone Tower in the lab next to the fourth year one at 6pm aiming to get started shortly after. (Knock on the wooden door with the keypad lock!)

Bringing your own laptop is advised. We have our lab computers that you’re welcome to use if you would prefer. (They’re on a First come-first served basis however!)

Hope to see you tomorrow!

Welcome Back!

Hey all and welcome to the second half of the uni year! We’re getting ready for StrathHack 2016, and another semester of uni!

First up, we’ll be meeting on Thursday in the level 14 lab in Livingstone Tower at 6pm. If you’re not sure where to go, simply message us in advance and we’ll direct you! Hope to see you there!

Next up, we’re working on getting StrathHack┬áready. Add the 20th and 21st of February to your diaries and start planning! We’ll have a full announcement and signup ready shortly!

And finally, if you’d like to run any particular themed events or nights out, then give us a shout and we’ll get them arranged for you! čÖé

See you on Thursday!

We are sorry to announce that our member web development server has gone offline due to an error with it’s raid array.

We shall be moving it to an backup server to restore the service.

New Site

As you may have noticed we’re building a new site and cleaning up our brand!

As you can see we’re switching from a Jekyll website to using wordpress. Since in a tech society some people can’t do HTML or markdown.
